Manchester United and Everton icon Wayne Rooney has revealed he locked his wife Coleen out of their house after she put up Liverpool flags.

Despite her husband playing for Liverpool’s two biggest rivals, Coleen Rooney, who has been married to Wayne since 2008, supports the Reds.

When Liverpool won the Premier League title in 2020, Coleen celebrated by putting up flags outside the family house, which upset the former striker.

‘When Liverpool won the Premier League a few years ago I came home, I was [a player] at Derby at the time, and Coleen’s got Liverpool flags up outside the house,’ he revealed on BBC podcast The Wayne Rooney Show.

‘It was our old house, so outside the front door there’s a little balcony thing and the flag was outside the window there, so I told her to go and get it down.

‘She went up and you had to actually climb out the window to get it down, so she went up and I locked her out.’

Quizzed how long Coleen was stuck outside for, Rooney added: ‘Not too long.’

‘I think the big thing is David Moyes coming back,’ Rooney said about Everton’s strong start to the 2025-26 season.

‘He’s come back. He knows the club. He knows the culture of the football club and then I think the signings have been really good.

‘But Moyes’ teams normally do do that. Hopefully we can get the three points. [I would] take a draw.’

Liverpool head into the Merseyside derby top of the table, having been the only team to win all four of their opening Premier League fixtures.
